Gut-shot vs. Open-Ended
Posted in Uncategorized at 12:49 pm | Comments Off

Getting a straight, or five sequential cards in a row, is good news in online poker , since it’s likely to be the best hand on the board. It’s rare to flop a straight, however, so more often than not you’ll be drawing towards one on the turn or the river. Having a straight draw is always a risky proposition, but there are two very different types of draws that you need to be aware of. Being one card away from making your straight means something very different when that card is in the middle of the straight rather than on either end of it. If you’ve got a 9-8 unsuited and the flop comes out 10-2-6, then you’ve got a gut-shot poker online straight. It’s true, you’re only one card away from making your straight, but the problem is, you’ve only got four 7’s in the deck that can make your poker online hand. On the other hand, an open-ended straight draw is a much better drawing situation if you’re looking to make a straight. If you’re holding that 9-8 unsuited, and the flop comes out 10-2-7, you’re still only one card away from the straight, but you’ve got twice as many cards that’ll save you. Now you have four Jacks and four 6’s that can make your hand.
